Hello fellow friends and vagabonds!
Welcome to the first, EVER, mass email/newsletter from Vagabond Outdoor Club (VOC). A total of 33 official Vagabonds have been included in this email and VOC is SO pleased to have your support in this way! We wanted to say thank you for joining the email list. This is just the beginning of our business endeavor and the emailing list is a crucial first step to getting our name out there to as many people as possible, so that we can let you, them, and the world know what we are doing and what we have to offer.
Our quick mission statement:
Adventure.
Community.
Sustainability.
Vagabond Outdoor Club's mission is to provide a hub where people can find learning and teaching opportunities that relate to outdoor skills, wilderness survival, and body wellness. We are a collective of people who want to adventure (climb, hike, bike, backpack), want to learn (everything), want to teach (your practice your skill set), want to promote and be a part of an actively changing and growing community (Ward, Ned, Jamestown, Gold Hill, Lyons, Coal Creek) and who especially want to be a part of the change we wish to see in the world!! VOC is actively worm farming and composting! We are actively recycling. We are actively being mindful of water consumption. Of energy consumption. Of TIME consumption. This is what sustainability means to us and VOC wants to keep the roll going by playing a good example.
Below is all you need to know about what is coming up soon within the Vagabond Community in the means of: Adventure, Community, and Sustainability!

Community:
Did you know that Nederland has a bouldering gym (https://www.dinomovesgym.com)? It's only $80/mo for the membership. They have showers, hanging silks, a campus board, weight training equipment, and they have a kilter board! If you don't know what a kilter board is, it's an adjustable wooden bouldering wall that has light-up holds that tell you what the bouldering problem is. You can choose from hundreds of bouldering routes/problems from a database you access on an app from your phone! You can put your own problem in or use any of the problems already in the database (here's how: https://www.thespotgym.com/kilter-board). I know it's summer and outdoor climbing is going to rule over gym time along with the membership budget, but the gym is a great place to start training for the outdoor climbing that some of us aspire to do. PLUS, you get 24/7 access to this gym, which is pretty clutch.
AND!
Dino Moves Gym has given Vagabond Outdoor Club several opportunities to create community in the gym space. Part of it is finding cool people and practitioners to come and teach a wellness practice for one hour, once a month. We have had yin yoga, sound bowl healing, and guided meditations so far. We are always looking for new and different people to teach a practice, so please reach out if you have a practice you would like to teach!
The other opportunity is Vagabond Outdoor Club is getting to design and run a summer camp based out of Dino Moves! It will be running three days a week, ages 7-11, at $100/day! Below is everything you need to know about Summer Camp and Wellness Hour.
Wellness Hour:
July 25, from 7pm-8pm, held at Dino Moves Gym.
If you haven't heard about Wellness Hour before it consists of one hour of a specific wellness practice. We have done Yin Yoga, Sound Bowl Healing with Crystal Singing Bowls, and Guided Meditations. Soon we will introduce Thai Chi and are seeking more people who like to teach a practice. We'd like to support as many people as possible in teaching wellness practices to our community and we want to promote as many different wellness practices as possible. Please reach out to Ella if you are interested in attending or teaching at
720-412-8826
Summer Camp:
- Monday's, Tuesdays, and Wednesday's (Through August 7th).
8:30am-4:30pm.
Ages 7-11.
$100/day with the option of need based discounts!
You can reserve a day or week ahead of time OR you can just drop in to the gym anytime from 8:30am-10am. We prefer it if you still sign-up online, even when dropping in. The sign-up form is under the Summer Camp tab at www.vagabondoutdoorclub.com
Mondays are Climbing plus Wilderness Survival and outdoor Skills.
Tuesdays are Climbing plus Arts, Crafts, and Murals (We are painting a mural over the duration of the summer and working on it on Tuesdays)!

Sustainability:
Worms and Composting have been the heat of recent discussions involving topics on sustainability within my immediate friends and close community. Dirt rehabilitation has been serious talk and it seems like everyone is thinking about it, especially with the gardening season in full thrust. From biochar, to mycelium loaded garden kits, to compost tea! I'm so proud of us for being mindful of food waste and for being interested in even tending to the Earth in the means of land rehabilitation, water and power consumption, watse, and sustainability in general. The fab is here and Vagabond Outdoor Club wants to jump in and go with it, you coming?
There is a cool publication about Oaxaca, Mexico and how worms helped reduce huge amounts of greenhouse gas (https://unfccc.int/climate-action/momentum-for-change/activity-database/momentum-for-change-worm-power--sustainability-and-income-generation-in-slums-through-worm-composting) in that area. A Company called "Worm Power" distributed worm farming kits to hundreds of people in Oaxaca so that they could help minimize the amount of organic waste going into the open air landfills (centralized food waste systems) by composting and farming worms in their own homes. Doing this reduced the greenhouse gases around Oaxaca and it's still working. In Oaxaca 1 million tons of greenhouse gas was eliminated out of the air over a 4 year timespan, because of worms!!! Yay. This is just one small example of the large impact that worms and composting could have in a given area. Have any of you had to pass emissions in Boulder County this year? It's totally nuts. Not that composting and raising worms would totally help that, but we do know that worms help the environment. Worms are easy to raise and don't take up a lot of space, and it's a place to put all of your organic food waste (which is probably most of your household waste, minus recycling). VOC is all in! We are creating a worm farm and beginning a compost pile and by next summer we (VOC and other collaborators in this project) should have a good base to start actually selling it. PLUS every member of VOC will get a one 5 gal bucket of freshly made compost every spring and worm castings!
Let me know if you'd like to become an official member of VOC to receive benefits like this.
